Sometimes I think I think too much...

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

In response to the result of the elections, I have this to say: I dont want to hear another word from the black community about racism. As we all know, there are not enough black people to swing a national election, so clearly it was the white folks that elected him en masse. Therefore I think we can all agree that we as a country have gotten to the point that we chose a black person as a leader. Also I am struck by how successful the racial equality movement has been. In the nineteen fifties and sixties, they were drinking from separate fountains and sitting at the back of the bus, and now, fifty years later, America elected a black president!! Kudos to the American people. My only regrets of course, is that the black person who was chosen, in my opinion doesnt really have the qualifications, and I dont like his politics at all. The results of the elections also saddens me because a- it seems that overwhelmingly, the people do not appreciate the great system we have had - capitalism. They seem to want to be taken care of by the govt, and give up the option of taking care of themselves. Either that, or they are just not thinking. Which means they are voting either based on race, which is not a good enough reason to vote for someone. Sometimes I think people have mixed up the presidential campaign with the American Idol contest - a popularity contest. I do admit - I probably would've also voted for Obama in that kind of contest.

Actually racism and blatant discrimination are alive and well in America, only the victims are White Males.

Oh
I would love a socialist system.
People in Denmark are the happiest people in the world with one of the highest life expectancies.
They don't have to worry about anything.
True they pay high taxes. But who cares..?
If all other expenses are virtually wiped away.

anon-lets ammend my statement to "anti black racism"

david- I dont know about Denmark, but you know what they say- power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. How realistic is it that the govt would run everything fairly and efficiently? and I have never heard of someone sick with a horrible disease say, I am going to Denmark for treatment, they have such cutting edge doctors there. look at some of the countries that were under communist rule that are now democratic, and see when they were producing better products, etc. Czech Republic comes to mind. Without that competition and the possibility of earning more, the desire to turn out better products was nil. Come on. You dont really mean that. (But you could move to Denmark if you really want to.)
and by the way, ever see English teeth?

Oh I agree...that Communism didnt work because it was a dictatorship and corruption was rampant but when you have a government thats accountable to the people..then its different.
Theres no question that competition and the drive to make more money can perhaps churn out better products.. But everything else suffers. Everyone gets caught up in the rat race...the whole idea of auster simple living goes out the window.. Basically life sucks but we distract ourselves with the nifty little gadgets our fierce competitive companies bang out.
Oh I'd move to Copenhagen is a second..its beautiful there
:-)

I dont think everyone suffers. In fact the opposite is true. Ask any local business owner if he is suffering now because the people who used to have money and spend it dont anymore. It trickles down. In my personal case I am seeing a big difference in my business, and I dont sell gadgets. When business is brisk and robust, everyone is better off.

As far as simple living, you can still do it. You just have to be strong enough to resist the peer pressure. I live pretty simply.

"You have to be strong enough.."

Thats just it.
But if the community moves in a certain direction..it's hard not to get caught up and when the whole goal of everything becomes how to make more and more money than everything becomes colored by that...anf the higher ideals of helping others and just stopping to enjoy life disappear..
I also live pretty simply..but then again..I'm moving to Denmark...

There is no comparision from countries that are truly socialist like Denmark that have socialized medicine etc. available for EVERYONE to Obama's proposals of Socialism that only benefit those who don't want to work(very low income) ,creating a situation where those those who don't work are finacially better off them the lower middle class.
